Scars

As you can see from the cover, this isn't the happiest book. This book talks about the struggles of sexual assault and depression on an innocent teenager. Kendra, is a 15 year old and is in high school. She still remembers the haunting memory of the mysterious man raped her for years when she was younger. Kendra becomes paranoid, believing that she is being followed by her abuser and believes he will kill her. The person is leaving threatening notes that she only understands. From all this pressure and fear, she is relieved by cut herself. Its her only way of coping. No one knows she cuts, not even her parents. Kendra finally meets someone that understands her and changes her life. Her name is Meghan, they start out as friends but Kendra wants more. Kendra knows that something is going happen with her serious abuse, and its not going to be good. Overall this book was very intense and depressing but had little hints of love which completed the book. I recommend this book for upper level high school students and adults because it has some graphic detail.
